8. What Steps are involved in creating a fundraiser?

Creating a fundraiser is quick and easy and can be done in less than 5 minutes if you have all the information at hand (See our Creating a fundraiser playbook for detailed step-by-step instructions on how to create a fundraiser). The seven steps involved in creating a fundraiser are as follows:

  • 1. Fundraiser Snapshot - This is a quick summary of your fundraiser including your fundraiser title, goal and duration

  • 2. Fundraiser Detail -  Explain what your fundraiser is what you are raising funds for. You can really bring your fundraiser to live by adding videos, images and social media links.

9. What kind of Fundraisers can be launched on GoSportUs?

Any sports related fundraiser can be put on GoSportUs:

  • Individual Athletes;

  • Sports Teams and Clubs;

  • Sports related events.

10. How long does it take to create and launch a fundraiser?

If you have all the information you need at hand, you can complete your Fundraiser page in less than 5 minutes. See “FAQ 10 - What information do I need to create my Fundraiser?” below for all the information that you need to include on your Fundraiser page.

11. Do have to add a Video to my fundraiser?

No, but it certainly helps. Nothing brings your fundraiser to life like a video. It can really show who you are, how committed you are and can really help you connect with your passionate supporters. Fundraisers with videos are much more credible and therefore much more likely to receive sponsorship

12. What are Rewards and do I need to offer them?

A reward is a way to give something back to a user in return for sponsoring you. Rewards can be anything from a big thank you and a shout out on your social media pages to club merchandise or a team jersey. Adding rewards is optional so it is op to you if you want to offer them or not, although offering rewards can help you attract more sponsorship.

13. What are good Rewards to offer?

You can be imaginative as you like (although not too imaginative – see what is prohibited as being offered in our guidelines) but here are some common rewards that work well:

  • Shout out and thank you (Via email or social media, on your website, handwritten).
  • Club Gear (Team Jersey, Tracksuit, Kit bag).
  • Club Branded Merchandise (Mugs, keyrings, air fresheners).
  • Club membership – Tip – you can raise extra money by offer varying levels of membership. i.e. standard membership at £35 or gold membership at £50 which could include free entry to games or some club merchandise along with the membership.
  • Team Jersey Sponsorship.
  • Pitch side advertisement board sponsorship.

14. If I offer rewards, do I need to ship and deliver them?

All rewards state a delivery date but this refers to when the reward is available rather than when it will be physically shipped and delivered. Adding shipping  is optional so it is up to you if you want to ship rewards or not. If you want to deliver a reward, simply select the respective UK or International shipping costs. If you don't want to deliver rewards, leave this blank and it will be clearly stated on the reward that it won't be delivered. If you want to add more information on the delivery or collection of a reward, you could include this in the reward description

Top Tip: If you are shipping rewards, give yourself some breathing room and choose a delivery date that you feel confident about. It's always good practice to under-promise and over-deliver.

15. What are Team Members and do I need to add them?

Team members can be added to your fundraiser so that they can raise sponsorship on behalf of your fundraiser. It is up to you if you want to add team members or but adding team members can greatly boost the amount of sponsorship you raise. The more team members you have, the more people out there spreading the word about your fundraiser and encouraging people to sponsor it. Also, the amount that each team member raises is displayed on your fundraiser homepage so you could offer a small reward to the team member(s) who raise the most to create a bit of competition amongst your team members and encourage them to raise more.

16. How do I receive the Sponsorship I raise?

We use a leading payment processing company called "Stripe" (also used by the likes of Facebook and Twitter) to securely manage all of our payments. So, in order to receive the funds you raise, you need to set up a Stripe Account which only takes two minutes (See our step-by-step guide)on how to do this). Then when people sponsor your fundraiser, you will receive the payment into your Stripe account immediately. Payments from your Stripe account into your bank account can be scheduled to occur on daily, weekly or monthly frequency (default is weekly) depending on which you would prefer

It is extremely important that you complete these steps otherwise you won't get paid!

17. Once I have created my Fundraiser, does it go live on GoSportUs immediately?

No. Once your Fundraiser is complete and you click submit, we will review your fundraiser within 24 hours to ensure it meets our guidelines and terms&conditions. If we are happy with it we will put it live on GoSportUs or, if your fundraiser needs some tweaks first, we will let you know.

18. What should I consider before I submit my Fundraiser for review

Exciting, by this stage your Fundraiser is nearly ready to go! Before you submit your fundraiser, make sure you complete these steps to give your fundraiser the best chance of passing our review first time:

  • Spell Check – Make sure there are no spelling or grammatical errors.

  • Get Feedback – Show your fundraiser to others, whether it is family, friends or club members. They may have some great suggestions to improve your Fundraiser

  • Read our guidelines and terms&conditions to make sure that your fundraiser meets them.

  • Line up your early sponsors now before your fundraiser even goes live so that when it does go live, these early sponsors can sponsor you straight away. People are always reluctant to be the first to take action, so by having early users sponsor you at the very start, it greatly increases the chances that other users will sponsor you. We recommend that you have 20% - 30% of your fundraising goal lined up before you go live.

Managing a fundraiser

19. My fundraiser has just gone live, now what?

Promote, Promote, Promote. Use the in built social media links on your fundraiser page to share your fundraiser with your friends, family and passionate supporters and encourage them to sponsor you. Also, use the update tab on your fundraiser page and send updates to your followers to keep them informed of your progress. We would recommend sending updates and requests every 3 days or so. You don't want to flood people with updates and requests every day but it is good to keep people informed and engaged.

20. Can I edit my Fundraiser once it is live?

Yes, you can edit everything on your Fundraiser except for the following:

— Your fundraiser goal;
— Your fundraiser deadline;
— Any rewards that have already been chosen.

21. What is the “Fundraiser Update” tab on my Fundraiser Page for?

Use this page to keep your sponsors and potential sponsors updated and engaged. You can provide updates on how the Fundraiser is progressing, any changes you have made and answer questions that have been raised. Keeping people in engaged in your fundraiser is key to getting people to sponsor you and share your fundraiser so this page is really useful in helping keep people engaged in your fundraiser.

22. What is the “Sponsors” tab on my Fundraiser Page for?

This shows everyone that has sponsored your fundraiser, how much they have sponsored you and any supportive comments that they have left. If sponsors wish to, they can choose to remain anonymous and hide their details on this page (although you as the fundraiser owner will always receive an email with all the sponsors details).

23. What is the “Team Members” tab on my Fundraiser Page for?

Team members can be added to your fundraiser so that they can raise sponsorship on behalf of your fundraiser. This tab shows all of the team members on your fundraiser and how much they have raised. Team members are listed in order of how much they have raised which is great for seeing

24. Who is responsible for answering questions from sponsors?

You, the Fundraiser Owner. Sponsors and potential sponsors will have questions for you during the course of your Fundraiser. These may range from questions on rewards to specific questions on your Fundraiser. Questions should be answered promptly and, if you are being asked the same query numerous times, publicly answering the query through your Fundraiser updates would be highly recommended.

25. Can my fundraiser raise more money than goal amount?

Absolutely, in fact we encourage it. You can raise as much as you like up until the fundraiser ends.

25. Once my fundraiser is closed, what should I do?

Your fundraiser closes once it reaches its end date and after this point people won't be able to sponsoring you although your fundraiser will always stay on GoSportUs for record.

Once your fundraiser has closed, you should thank all of your sponsors for supporting you and if you have offered to deliver rewards you should make sure to ship these so that they are delivered on the date you have stated.

27. When I sponsor a fundraiser, when is my card charged?

As soon as you sponsor a team, enter your details and click the Sponsor button, your card is charged.

28. Is the amount I have sponsored publicly displayed?

It is up to you. When you sponsor a fundraiser, you have the 3 choices of how your sponsorship will appear:

1. Display all info – This displays your name, how much you have sponsored and any good luck messages you have left.

2. Only display name – This will only show your name, so the amount you have sponsored will be hidden

3. Anonymous – This hides all of your details (Note, the fundraiser owner will still receive all of your details).

29. How will the fundraiser owner get my information to deliver my reward?

Your contact and delivery details will be passed onto the Fundraiser Owner once you sponsor that Fundraiser. Also, the Fundraiser owner may ask a question in relation to a reward e.g. what size or colour would you like? Your answer will also be passed onto the Fundraiser Owner so that they can deliver your specific reward. The Fundraiser Owner may also contact you if they need more information.

30. What do I do if I have questions about a Fundraiser?

Ask the fundraiser owner! At the bottom of each Fundraiser page there’s an “Ask a Question” button. This will send your question directly to the Owner.

31. Who is responsible for fulfilling the promises of a fundraiser?

It is the responsibility of the fundraiser owner to fulfil the promises of their fundraiser. We do review fundraisers for quality and to ensure they meet GoSportUs Fundraiser Guidelines and standards but it is ultimately the sponsor who must decide if they trust the fundraiser and the fundraiser owner.

There are some steps you can take to check a fundraiser’s credibility:

  • Check out any links to other websites they have such as Facebook pages, twitter etc

  • Search their name and their team’s name on the internet. If they have been involved in sporting competitions in the past, it is likely that they will appear.

  • You can email the Fundraiser Owner directly with any questions or queries you have.

32. Can people from outside the UK sponsor Fundraisers?

Absolutely! Our payment processor Stripe accepts payments from around the World so you can sponsor your team no matter where in the World you are based.

Be aware, if you are sponsoring a fundraiser and have chosen a reward, make sure the reward can be delivered to where you live.

33. I haven't gotten my reward yet. What do I do?

Firstly - check the Estimated Delivery Date of your reward on the fundraiser page. There could be months between the date you sponsor a fundraiser and the date when your reward will be delivered.

If the Estimated Delivery Date has passed, check for Fundraiser updates or emails that may explain why the reward is late.

If the fundraiser owner hasn’t posted an update, you can send a direct message to the owner using the "Ask a Question" button on the bottom of the fundraiser page.

34. How do I know if a Fundraiser is legitimate?

Launching a Fundraiser on GoSportUs is a very public act, and fundraiser owners put their reputations at risk when they do.

Sponsors should look for fundraisers that share links to their websites, Facebook, twitter accounts etc. Also, the more background information provided the better sense you can get of the fundraiser and its trustworthiness.

Use internet search engines to search for the team or individual. If they have played matches or tournaments in previous years, they should appear.

Finally, you can always email the fundraiser owner directly with any questions or queries you have by clicking the “Ask a Question” button on the fundraiser page.
